Multiple Managers and Additional Reporting Lines
One person may appear under their solid-line manager and may also appear under one or more additional reporting managers. Org Chart does not model positions, vacancies, or dual assignments as separate entities. Additional lines are extra appearances of the same person.
The canvas legend reads dashed outline = external · ⇄ = additional reporting line · drag to pan.
How each format stores extra managers
- Manager IDs in one field. The first ID is the solid-line manager. Remaining IDs in that cell are additional reporting lines. Separate keys with comma, semicolon, or pipe. See Map Person ID and Manager ID.
- Solid and dotted manager fields. Map Solid-line manager ID and Dotted-line manager ID(s) (optional).
- Repeated rows — first manager is solid. The first row for a person is the solid-line manager. Later rows are additional reporting managers.
- Repeated rows — relationship type field. Classify each Relationship type value as Solid line, Dotted line, or Ignore.
- Manager lookup — SharePoint list only. A multi-value Manager column: the first value is the solid-line manager; later values are additional reporting lines.
How it looks
The person renders in both places. Their own reports hang from the solid-line appearance. Each additional appearance is a leaf marked ⇄. That extra card does not expand another copy of their team.
Node captions read primary: {manager}, or same ID · primary: {manager} when the extra line came from a repeated-row file. primary here is the solid-line manager, not a job seat.
The focus card shows also reports to {manager} · primary: {manager}. A report who also reports to someone else is suffixed ** (dual-hat)**. That suffix is a label on the extra reporting line. It is not a second job seat.
Counts of people beneath a manager follow solid lines only, so nobody is counted twice.
