Zenpo Page Templates FAQ
Answers for the setup wizard: what installs, demo content, overwrite rules, home.aspx, re-runs, permissions, NoScript, uninstall, site scoping, and the left rail on phones.
What does this product actually install?
Reusable page layouts, registered as native SharePoint page templates in the site you run it in, so they appear under New page → from template. Optionally, one Home page built from a layout you choose. A small setup record is also kept in Site Assets so the web part can tell what it has already installed. The preview step lists every item before anything is created. It does not create sample content, business lists, or navigation.
How many layouts are there?
Three: Zenpo Constrained + Right Rail, Zenpo Constrained + Left Rail, and Zenpo 3-Column Intranet.
Is sample or demo content created?
No. The layouts are geometry and composition only: "no sample content, nothing to clean out." No business lists are created, no navigation is changed, and no news, images, or placeholder department content is added.
Do I need a paid Zenpo subscription to use it?
No. Zenpo Page Templates is Free Forever. Your organization accepts the Intranet Suite terms once, and the wizard itself is where that happens for this pack.
Does Zenpo replace or delete my existing pages?
No. Zenpo never overwrites an existing page and never deletes one. Everything is additive.
What happens if a page named home.aspx already exists?
You choose in the preview step: Keep the existing page (skip) (the default) or Create alongside with a new name. The existing page is untouched either way.
What happens if I run setup again?
Layouts already installed are skipped and left as they are. The wizard reports them as Already installed — left untouched. Re-running is safe and is the documented recovery step if a run was interrupted. Re-running never replaces or upgrades an existing template.
Can I install only some of the layouts?
Yes. All available layouts are pre-selected in step 1. Clear any you do not want. Nothing you did not select is ever created.
Can I optionally create a Home page?
Yes. Step 2. It is off by default. When on, you choose the layout it is built on and its title. The page is created as a draft so you can review it before publishing.
What happens to my old Home page if I publish the new one as the site home?
It is kept. Only the site's "which page is home" pointer changes: "Your current home page is kept — nothing is deleted."
What permissions do I need?
Permission to create pages on the site. Someone without it sees Site owner needed and: "Installing page templates needs permission to create pages on this site. Ask a site owner to run the setup — nothing is created until they review and confirm every item." Everything runs under the signed-in user's own permissions.
Can a site owner run setup when custom scripting is disabled (NoScript)?
Yes. The permission check is based on the ability to create pages, so a site owner on a NoScript site can run the wizard.
What happens after Zenpo is uninstalled?
The templates and pages remain. They are ordinary SharePoint content on your own site. Pages keep their structure and all their native SharePoint content. Only the Zenpo web parts placed on a page would stop rendering, because their package is gone. Of the three layouts in the catalog, only Zenpo Constrained + Right Rail places one (a Zenpo Page Heading). Zenpo Constrained + Left Rail and Zenpo 3-Column Intranet use native SharePoint parts only. Nothing else is affected.
Are the resulting templates site-specific?
Yes. Templates are installed into the site you run the wizard in and are available in that site's New page → from template picker. Run the wizard again in each site that needs them.
Do the layouts depend on Zenpo staying installed?
Mostly no, with one exception. The installed page templates and any pages created from them are ordinary SharePoint content and remain if Zenpo is removed, keeping their structure and all their native SharePoint content. The exception is a Zenpo web part placed on a page, which needs the Zenpo package to render. Of the three layouts, only Zenpo Constrained + Right Rail places one (a Zenpo Page Heading). Can I remove the setup web part from the page afterwards?
Yes. The layouts it installed are site content and are unaffected. The web part is the setup surface, not a dependency of what it created.
Do the layouts work on a team site?
They install and work, but they are designed around communication sites, which offer full-width sections and pages without a left navigation rail. The wizard says so: "These layouts shine on a communication site — its pages have no left navigation rail and full-width sections. Everything still installs and works here."
Page chrome outside the canvas (the Microsoft 365 app bar, the suite header, the social bar, and a team site's left navigation) is not something any web part can change.
What does the left rail do on a phone?
Phone layouts stack in reading order, so whatever sits in the left rail owns the first screen. Put skimmable content there (links, dates, short lists) rather than tall web parts. At desktop width the left rail is a full third of the page, so treat it as a working column, not a thin list of links.
Can I modify a Zenpo layout and save it as my own SharePoint page template?
Yes. Create a page from a Zenpo layout, arrange it, then use SharePoint's own Save as template. Communication sites only. The derived template is site-scoped. Copied web part instances keep their configuration, including list bindings, so re-point them. The derived template depends on the Zenpo package remaining installed.
