Set Up and Configure People Directory
Bind a SharePoint list or a same-site CSV, map Name and any optional roles you want, then choose layout, chips, and what a click does. Roles are not fixed column names. The selected view carries order, filter, and item limit. See How Zenpo Web Parts Use Your SharePoint Data.
The property pane groups are License, Data, Content mapping, Layout, Appearance (web part only), and Behavior.
1. Add the web part
- Edit a SharePoint Online modern page.
- Add a web part and type Zenpo.
- Choose Zenpo People Directory from News, people and events.
Until a source is bound, editors see Configure People Directory and Bind a SharePoint list — or a CSV file from a library in this site — with people data, and map its columns to start the directory.
2. Choose a data source
Under Data:
- Set Heading if you want a title. The default is Our people.
- Set Data source type to SharePoint list or CSV file.
- For a list, pick Data source (list) and a View.
- For a CSV, pick the Document library and the CSV file. The file must be a
.csvin a library on this site. First row must be headers. Comma and semicolon delimiters are detected automatically. CSV only — not XLSX, not TXT. - Set Cache duration. The default is 5 minutes (recommended).
If you would rather start from sample people, use Need a starter list? Create one with sample data. That creates an Employees list with the same schema Org Chart uses, then binds the part so you can browse it immediately. The link appears only if you can create lists. See Create Starter Lists with Sample Data.
For an HR-system file, use an HRIS CSV export workflow. Export CSV, store it in this site, select it, then map columns. Zenpo does not connect to Workday, ADP, SAP SuccessFactors, PeopleSoft, or any other HR system.
Date format (Auto, Month / Day / Year, Day / Month / Year) appears only when Hire date is mapped and ambiguous dates exist.
3. Map content roles
Under Content mapping, map:
- Name (required)
- Photo (optional)
- Job title (optional)
Open ▸ More fields for:
- Department (optional)
- Location (optional)
- Email (optional)
- External marker (optional)
- Manager (optional) on a list, or Person ID (optional) plus Manager ID (optional) on a CSV
- Hire date (optional)
Only Name is required. Each role you leave unmapped simply removes what it powers.
On a CSV, both Person ID and Manager ID must be mapped for the detail sheet's Manager and Also reports to rows to appear. Mapping only one leaves those rows out. The directory does not build a hierarchy. The keys only add those linked rows, and each one opens that person's own sheet.
External marker and Photo are never detected automatically from a CSV. Map them by hand if you want them. If the export splits first and last name, the Name role can combine two columns into one displayed name.
Changing the list or file resets mappings. Changing only the view keeps them.
4. Set layout
Under Layout:
- Layout mode: Cards (default) or Compact list
- A–Z rail: on by default
- Filter chips from: checkboxes for Department (on) and Location (on)
Unmap a role, or clear its checkbox, and that chip menu disappears.
Containers under 640 pixels switch to the compact list.
5. Set appearance and click behavior
Under Appearance (web part only), set Color vibe, Accent color, Corner radius (0 to 16, default 6), and Card spacing (8 to 24, default 12). Appearance applies to this web part only. See Appearance Settings: Color Vibe, Accent Color, and Corner Radius.
Under Behavior, set On click:
- Open detail sheet (default)
- Send email
- Do nothing
Email, Teams chat, and Copy email need the Email role mapped and a value on that person. Tenure bands need Hire date.
